Finally a Waterproof Pin-Pointer by Garrett

I'm sure many of you have heard about this already so this is probably old news but I'm itching to get my hands on one of these. Its made by Garrett and they are calling it the Pro-Pointer AT. Its submersible up to 10ft. They have a field test video out now as well as an independent review. If any of you are lucky enough to have one of these already then I want to hear your thoughts.  Leave a comment below or shoot me an email mentalmetal314@gmail.com.

If you don't want to wait for the new Garrett and want to waterproof the one you have, here are some ideas that failed and one that worked.

Waterproofing Your Old Pin-Pointer

If you've watched any of my videos, you probably ran into a few of my underwater adventures.  I'm still in the learning phase but I will admit that I got hooked on water hunting and can't wait for summer to get hear to do it again. I actually found some stuff. I have a section on my YouTube channel called Underwater Hunts if you want to check any of them out.

Whether you have a Garrett Pro-Pointer or another brand, in order to make your life easier in the water, I'll be the first to tell you that a waterproof pin-pointer is a must! In muddy water, its almost impossible to find your target and if you don't have one you'll just get pissed off and go home. The other solution...stay out of the mud!

Now, I will admit, I did my share of research and watched a lot of video's on how to waterproof your pin-pointer. Some methods worked for awhile, some completely failed me,  and 1 method really worked but I had some problems in the beginning.

What didn't work:
  1. Plastic baggies. You can double wrap it and it will work for awhile but its a pain and you'll eventually get tired of messing around with the bags. The jagged rocks will eventually break the bags and then you're doomed.
  2. Waterproof bags. I'm talking about the bags you can purchase for kayaking or camping. They come in various sizes. They will work for awhile but water will eventually seep in and then you're doomed.
  3. "Press N Seal" and plastic baggies: This method lasted the longest but it eventually failed and the "Press N Seal" left a sticky residue on my pin-pointer.
What did work:

I had pretty good success using Marine GOOP adhesive but you have to make sure you cover the speaker hole, light, battery compartment, and buttons and make sure you add a couple of layers of GOOP. I've used this method on my Garrett Pro-Pointer but I used too much GOOP during my 1st attempt and I couldn't keep the device turned on without holding down the button. I eventually corrected the problem and it worked fine.

Caution!
You will void the warranty from Garrett by waterproofing your Pro-Pointer.
You've been warned!

Wait for the Pro-Pointer AT

If you don't want to the hassle then wait for new Garrett. But if your tight on the cash situation the GOOP method will work (if you do it correctly). Either way, you have a solution. I'm heading down the Pro-Pointer AT path as soon as I can get one.

Good luck and happy hunting!

Even if Red Dog Casino doesn’t have a cellular app, it doesn’t actually matter. The casino web site is totally optimized for cellular utilization.
